John Fogerty wrote Down on the Corner in the week leading up to CCR's legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969. The song tells the story of Willy and the Poor Boys — a fictional street band playing washboard and washtub bass for nickels on the corner. Fogerty based the characters on his own bandmates, inspired by a newspaper ad of all things. Released as a double A-side with Fortunate Son, it peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 20 December 1969. The fictional band's album cover was shot outside the Duck Kee Market on Peralta and Hollis Street in Oakland, California. This shirt puts that whole joyful, rootsy world on your chest.
